Promoting the Profession of Court Reporting in South Carolina

  |

The theme for the 2011 SCSCRA Convention was Go Green for Greenville! We were offered a variety of classes found them to be beneficial in a number of ways.

Downtown Greenville is absolutely beautiful with lots of shopping, boutiques, restaurants, plazas and parks. Our tree-lined Main Street offers a variety of ways to view our panoramic downtown. You can stroll down Main Street under a canopy of trees, ride the trolley, or hitch a ride on a rickshaw or horse-drawn carriage. There’s so much to do and see. Greenville has a lot of art and culture. We hope that you will come and enjoy all that Greenville has to offer. We have attached a recent article in The Washington Post regarding a writer’s visit to Greenville. It’s a great article that will give you lots of current information on our wonderful city.

We kicked this year’s convention off with a late registration at the Hyatt Regency situated on the corner of Beattie Place and Main Street. The Hyatt is the crowning jewel of Main Street. The Hyatt Plaza serves as one of the main outdoor venues for live music on Thursday and Friday evenings. There are many restaurants, retail shops, art galleries and specialty boutiques to wander into as you make your way down Main Street.

After registration, Mayor Knox White will welcomed us to Greenville. Immediately following, we had our mandatory meeting with Court Administration. Lunch at the Hyatt on Thursday was hosted by the Pickens County Bar. The auction was a bit different this year. We had a silent auction. In conjunction with the auction, we had cocktails and hors d’oeuvres provided by the Greenville Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Thursday brought information-packed seminars and speakers, and we had a Scrabble and a Boggle tournament to sharpen our vocabulary skills. Before heading out for our banquet, we posed for our group photo in the Hyatt Atrium. From there we enjoyed dinner and a show at Café and Then Some, a block from the Hyatt. Café and Then Some is a quirky little theater, and their shows pick on Greenville and/or South Carolina in general.

We chose Angel Food Ministries as our charity for this year. Angel Food is a ministry that assists families by providing quality food at low cost. Angel Food provides $60 worth of food for only $30. We will took up a collection at the convention to give to Angel Food to feed families in our community.

We left more knowledgeable, became greener and feel much more rejuvenated.
